Chasing after butterflies can be a tiresome business sometimes. After a couple of hours with no good shots, I took a break and sat down. Then this little common bluetail joined me and posed nicely for several shots. So nice!

f/5.6 – 1/250 – ISO 200 – 60
Nice capture, they are wonderful creatures.

Indeed they are! And they can sit still for ages, so an amateur photographer gets a chance to practice on them π

A good weekend.

Same to you! π

Might be me, but doesn’t seem ours pose as well. I particularly like the green leg shadows.

They don’t always, but sometimes you’re lucky. This one stayed for a long time, I could play around with the camera settings. π

I particularly enjoy seeing damsel and dragonflies. We’ve had so few this summer.

I haven’t seen a single dragonfly this summer! Not one! Where are they? I’m glad we have quite many damselflies and butterflies this summer.

That’s sad not to see a single dragonfly. We’ve had a severe drought and all insect numbers are extremely low. I worry about how the numbers will rebound next year.

I’m just back home and happy, no THRILLED, to report that I spotted several dragonflies and LOADS of damselflies! And they were all mating, so there’s good hope for the future as well π and ps. I got very close to some spiders, I’m actually getting over my fear (slowly)

You’re so amazing with the macro-photography. I’d love to get a lens and some tubes to try my hand at it… but I have to pay off my Nikon first… UGH! I love your work!

Thanks so much! I got the macro lens a few months ago, and I really like it. π When the colors change I will try landscape photographing as well, I hope I can get some nice autumn shots!

To say that is a nice shot is an understatement but that’s all I got because awesome is extremely over used! Sweet shadow, nice eyes and a damsel besides. Great macro and let me know if you ever solve the butterfly- attention- disorder problem. Beautiful things but not very cooperative this time of the year.

Wow, such high praise! Thank you so much!! I’ll let you know if I find any ‘trick’, so far I’ve just followed them around until they get tired though most of the time I get tired before they do π

I am glad I am not the only one who gets “beat down” by butterflies π
September 15, 2012 at 2:50 PM
I’ll fall in with the praise. I’ve tried my hand at those little beauties as well and it’s damn tricky… so it’s really a great shot, especially the eyes, they really capture you.

Thank you so much, Eva! Indeed it can be tricky, I tried to get the whole body in focus but that failed miserably, so I focused on his face instead. Cute, isn’t he? I like his big eyes and full lips (looks like lipstick) π
