Smile! The world is a beautiful place (^_^)

The Little Owl (Athene noctua) is a small, very cute owl! Little Owl was the wisdom’s bird among the Greeks who engraved its effigy on some of their currencies. It was also Goddess Athena’s companion, from whom it got its generic name.

This is the first post in a series of photos taken in Algarve, Portugal.

  3. The one against the red roof tiles looks wonderful – great background. He/she looks very cuddly! 😉 I love the way some of those owls have wonderful long eyelashes, very adorable!! 🙂 Your pictures made me think of this video I found a while back, one of the videos on You Tube called him the Owl Whisperer – surely not, he sounds terrified!!!! 😀 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4K_86-9ItJ8

  8. Wonderful shots, Camilla, of a cool looking little owl. Getting any shot on owl is quite an accomplishment, but the image with the red tile roof in the background is breathtakingly beautiful.

    • Thanks so much, Mike! I was a bit surprised by the kind cooperation, the Little Owl just sat there and posed patiently while I fumbled with the camera.. 🙂

  10. Very cute, like the fake eyes on the back of its head that remind me of the ferruginous and mountain Pygmy Owls.

    • Thanks Jane, I like the fake face too. It’s such a cool feature. 😉 Your Pygmy Owl is smaller than this one, I do hope I get to see one one day!
