Smile! The world is a beautiful place (^_^)

Two pictures of a Eurasian Blue Tit (Cyanistes caeruleus or Parus caeruleus), photographed on a rainy and windy (hence the Mohawk-like hairstyle..) day last week

  1. Two super studies of these lovely birds. And great hairstyles as well.
    Very nice! 🙂

    • Thanks John! The hairstyle was an added bonus! It was very windy that day. 🙂

  2. Beautiful captures. The bird looks so expressive and punkish!

  3. That stylish wet, windblown look!

  4. The second photo is so cute. Love that pose and the stance of the bird. Seems to be saying, “i’m the cock of the walk here.”

    • Thanks Yvonne! This is a small bird, but very tough! He often chases away much bigger birds, and is -most of the time- the first one to show up and the last one to leave the bird feeder..

      • Oh, a little glutton. There is an old saying, “the early bird gets the worm” and in this case it’s the early bird that gets the feed.” 🙂

    • Haha! Yes, unfortunately the pictures where he’s got a normal hairdo turned out a bit blurry..

  7. Darling! He looks so mussed up. 😉

    • Yes, the rain and the wind made of mess of his hair! 😀

  11. I like how birds dry themselves after a warm bath. Cute photos! 🙂

  12. Like everyone else, I really like the hairstyle, but what I especially love is the defiant attitude in the first shot. He kind of looks like a rebellious teenager, full of attitude. I noted that you used your SX50–were you able to shoot these from a good distance away? The backgrounds blurred out nicely.

    • Thanks Mike! 😀 I was just a few meters away, and shot the pictures with f/5.6 at 1/160s and ISO 500. The images aren’t cropped, but as you know the PS has a nice zoom!

  13. Having had a bath is seems, or a shower probably. You got nice shots.

  16. Cool images, Camilla: I totally dig the “mohawk” (first thing that caught my attention right away in the first shot) and the little guy’s attitude! Your first shot is priceless! 🙂 Great work!

    • Thanks so much, Stefano! Your kind words mean a lot to me! 🙂

  20. I think you may enjoy all the birds that live around here. I hear birdsong all day, and there are always hummingbirds around too. Bring the long lens!

    May 27, 2014 at 8:46 PM

    • I look forward to it! Have never seen a hummingbird IRL.

      May 28, 2014 at 5:56 PM

      • Seriously? Wow. They are very common around here. Had lots of them at my home in Colorado too. They are fun to watch.

  24. Love the way so many bird “poses” seem to mirror human emotion–that’s part of the fun of shooting birds (with a camera!). Well done–love these!
