Smile! The world is a beautiful place (^_^)

I was in a botanic garden photographing a big cactus when this little burrowing owl showed up and wondered what I was doing. I quickly fired a shot but my camera settings were set for the cactus so unfortunately the owl’s picture is not very sharp. He/She disappeared before I could take another one.

  2. I hate when that happens! IF only animals were better at understanding the patience it takes to get the million dollar shot! πŸ™‚

  3. Yes I wish I had a dollar for every creature that took off too fast on me. It’s an interesting pose looking up like that.

    • Yes, too bad because it’s such a cute little bird! I think he was curious because he looked up as if asking what I was doing with the cactus πŸ™‚

  4. You have such good luck. I can’t imagine being that close to an owl. They’re one of my absolute favorite things. I just rarely see one.

    • They are really beautiful! I was lucky to see it, but less lucky with the shot. Oh well… πŸ™‚

Beautiful picture. Like it very much. Like how the owl has a soft focus which gets softer the closer you get towards it’s feet. Gives it a feeling of depth. Really cute and lovable picture.

    • I must admit the soft focus unintentional.. But thanks for your comment, I’m glad you like it! πŸ™‚

I don’t know anything about the technical aspects of photography; I just have a gut feeling about pictures I like. My “gut” is talking like crazy about this picture. The owl is so precious.

I think it shows the owl camouflage really well. Plus, the owl is relly cute. What a face! Glad you posted it.

  9. But how amazing is this ? I’ve never seen such a cute little owl!

    • Yes, cute little one! Thanks for your comment and ‘like’!

  10. These comments clearly show that you are being too hard on yourself. Photos are intended for people to see–they are not scientific, abstract constructs. That’s why this is as much (or more) an art as a science. You captured a beautiful, unusual moment that produces an emotional reaction in the viewers. That makes it a good photo in my opinion.

    • Thanks so much for your comments, Mike! I’m very surprised there are so many positive reactions. I wasn’t sure if I should post it or not, but I decided to do anyway it because who knows when or if I’ll see such a cute owl again?

You captured it well! Such a cute sight.

  12. It is always great to capture those moments. We always wish we had time to change the settings or the lens. I think this is a great shot.

    September 21, 2012 at 2:41 AM

    • Thank you so much! I don’t think it’s a great shot but I’m happy I got one at all of this cute little owl!

  13. I think the owl and the cactus go great together! Lovely shot!

  14. Great shot! There’s nothing wrong with it! The main thing is, you were there and you got the shot.
    Thanks for sharing it.

I really love owls, they are amazing creatures. so never mind about the sharpness – you captured this sweet little one very nicely!

    September 21, 2012 at 8:13 AM

    • Thank you, Eva! They are beautiful birds, but not very common. If I see one, it’s usually sitting high up in a tree, sleeping. πŸ™‚

  16. Cute little thing! You are lucky! Still a good picture (I would, however, prefer a slightly darker version, can always adjust with application). B-)

    • Thanks Ranan! Yes, I was lucky πŸ™‚ I just got Elements 10, but haven’t learnt how to use it yet..

      September 21, 2012 at 11:20 AM

      • jumbo

Don’t worry about Elements 10 – or Photoshop – or any of the others. Just keep on taking those great photographs.

        September 21, 2012 at 8:26 PM

        • Thanks so much!! Though I will try to learn Elements, at least the basics πŸ™‚

  18. What a great encounter, and to be able to catch it – wonderful!

    September 23, 2012 at 10:15 PM

  19. Wow, so lucky! Very cute photo. My camera is no frills on the button side of things (but it is small), sometimes I wish I had a quick button to switch to auto mode for times like these.

    September 26, 2012 at 1:42 AM

    • I wished I had set my camera in auto mode! A shame to (kind of) miss such an opportunity. But better something than nothing πŸ™‚
