storks
I didn’t know it before I went, but Marrakech is full of storks! And apparently the stork is a holy bird in Marrakech, so disturbing one could land you in prison. Well, I didn’t go near them, I only took pictures using the good zoom on my SX50.

When we visited Africa, there were trees full of storks. It was quite impressive.

It was the first time I saw storks, they were much bigger than I thought. Very impressive!

How do you find the SX50?

In general I’m very pleased with it. The zoom is amazing and it’s light & small so easy to bring with. Well worth the money I think! But won’t replace a DSLR.

I saw clothing in or beside one nest. Does the stork use other items besides the sticks and??? Nice post Calee.

Thanks Yvonne! I think they use whatever they find!
And they spend ages on making the nest nice & comfy.

I’ve never seen a stork. Loved the first photo – especially the change of clothes.

You never know when you need a change!

Wow, Calee, you really zoomed in close on these storks! Excellent shots! That first bird looks like he knows about the prison penalty and is just daring you to come closer… It needs to deal with its own thieving tendencies of clothing.

Thanks Wendy!
Yes he gave me a stare as to warn me not to come close! And they are really big too, I wouldn’t want to feel that sharp beak!

From the looks of the nests (?), they’re on beach clean up too. Great shots.

Thanks my friend! No beach close by, but who knows how far these birds travel..

Yes, they are very impressive!

I really like my new Canon SX-50. I like to shoot video of the bees flying into my carved log hive and zoom in from a wide shot to a up-close shot. It’s impressive. Your stork shot is great. The camera captured well the deep blue sky behind the bird.

I’m glad you like it! I saw your video, wow, big difference from the 5x zoom you used before! And for me the difference is even bigger, I don’t have any zoom on my other camera.

There’s definitely an optical clarity to the prime lens, but once you’ve experienced the zoom, it’s hard to go back, and the way they are building them now, there’s no need to.

Awesome shot! I didn’t know that there were storks in Morocco, of all places! I love the photo of the bird against the beautiful blue sky. I also like seeing them in their nests. They look very comfortable.
